Over the Fence and Overlooked

by Kyleigh and Michael Simpson

In Brief :
224 pages, 190 mm x 275 mm, Hard cover, Section sewn
Over the Fence and Overlooked - Traditional Plants in Queensland’s Gardening Heritage is a title that suggests that there are treasures to be found in older gardens when you look carefully. The title is an appeal to collectors of old-fashioned ornamental plant varieties and to enthusiastic amateur garden historians. This is not a book about garden design concepts but about plant material and perhaps design dictated by the plants themselves. The Authors attempt to recognise useful overlooked plants that they already grow, for the reader to learn about the qualities which make these plants the basis of a good garden. Overview:

A book for those who love hardy heritage plants that keep growing and flowering in Queensland. Over the Fence and Overlooked is a tour through older bayside Brisbane suburbs and to Montville. It includes plant inventories and many full colour photographs and drawings celebrating Queensland's domestic garden heritage. This delightful and comprehensive hard cover book of over 220 pages, printed in full colour on gloss art, is packed with beautiful photographs of warm climate garden plants and practical comments on the hundreds of species, including many heritage roses, and cultivars which have been collected and grown by the authors.

A tribute to Kyleigh and Michael's enjoyment of gardening, this book allows them to share their enthusiasm for traditional plant varieties which are not just part of Queensland's gardening heritage, but which offer so much enjoyment in the future.

Definitely one for the collection, and a wonderful gift.
